Feels Like Summer

I love a fruit print and could not resist purchasing a few yards of Rifle Paper Co’s Fruit Stand in Cream from their Orchard collection. I didn’t have a pattern in mind, but once I learned I needed surgery last November, I set out to make a few sets of pjs to wear during my recovery. It was a whirlwind, but I managed to sew three pairs of pjs in five days!

I taught two classes on making the Closet Core Carolyn pj pants last summer, and after making the shop sample, I knew I wanted to play with the pattern a bit. It comes with the option for shorts, pants, long sleeves, or short sleeves. Add piping and pockets, or omit them for a quicker sew. For the shop sample, I used a cute daisy print by Ruby Star Society and a baby gingham print.

For mine, I chose to make pants with inseam pockets (which aren’t part of the pattern) and the short-sleeved top. I find it a little quicker to sew, and it uses less fabric. I shortened the pants by 2″ and added an inch to the width of the cuff. I also shared a quick tutorial for inserting the elastic in this Instagram post.

I shortened the top by 3″ and added a back facing. Instead of piping, I decided to add contrast by using another out-of-print Rifle Paper Co fabric from my stash. The buttons are repurposed from one of Jon’s old button-up shirts.

Overall, I like them a lot! If I make another pair, I will size down to a 10 for pants and keep a size 12 for the top. For now, I have four sets of pjs, so it will be a while until I make another pair.
