I had so many plans for the start of the year, but life. As I reflect and pivot from my original plans, I realize I am still making progress toward those goals, even if they are a bit delayed. Much like in sewing, we can plan a project, purchase the needed supplies, and still encounter unexpected hurdles.

When I began teaching crafting and sewing classes fifteen years ago, I never imagined how many friendships would be formed in those classes. I have enjoyed seeing the support and encouragement my students give each other and me. When someone gets discouraged or frustrated, I love that there’s always a group of women cheering them on. As I state in every class, there is more than one method to construct a garment or bag, and my goal is to help everyone find the method that feels most comfortable and easiest for them.

In an age where technology is at our disposal and we can watch YouTube tutorials, read blogs, and ask ChatGPT, it’s not lost on me how valuable time is to all of us. I’m honored that people will carve out time from their busy schedules to attend one of my classes. I’m also so thankful for my local quilt shops and the people who work at them. These ladies are incredibly supportive and talented, and they have cultivated a wonderful and welcoming community that reflects their love and excitement for making all the things.

As February winds down, I am working on sewing samples for new summer classes! I’m teaching my updated Charm City Tote pattern and Friday Pattern Company’s Donny top at Downtown Dry Goods. If you missed January’s Sew Liberated Chanterelle pants class, we also added another date in May. Make the barrel or wide leg pants in time for spring and summer festivities! I enjoy seeing everyone’s fabric choices, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s finished garments and bags. I have more new classes (and pattern releases!) to announce soon, so stay tuned! Follow along on Instagram stories for sneak peeks!
