Sweet Nest Baby Quilt

20190317_153940I am having baby fever, y’all! I have a couple of friends who have newborns, and although I don’t miss the diaper changes and odd sleep hours, I do love the sweet smiles, giggles, and daily discoveries!

When Beverly, of Flamingo Toes, sent me the pattern for her latest quilt pattern, I couldn’t resist turning the four blocks I made into a sweet baby quilt. I used Lella Boutique‘s Nest Fabric and FreeSpirit solids for the background, accent pieces, and binding.

Beverly’s X’s and Bows pattern is precut friendly, so you can use a layer cake or fat quarters, but you can also use fat eighths. Just note, if you’re using fat eighths (like I did), you’ll need more to make the quilt according to the pattern, or you can sew fewer blocks and make a smaller quilt.

Her instructions are clear and include diagrams for each step, which makes it a great pattern for beginners. Since I made a smaller version, I omitted the two outer borders and cut my binding strips 2″ wide.20190317_212439
I used another Lella Boutique print from the Sugar Pie collection for the backing. I love when designers have collections that pair well with current and previous collections! For the quilting, I went with my classic “straight” line quilting to keep it modern and simple.

I enjoyed making this quilt so much, I’m currently planning my next version! After I sew my Burnside Bibs for the #sewbib challenge (on Instagram), of course. What are you planning to sew next? What’s your most recent finish?
