No Place Like Home Shift Dress

20180528_194438Growing up, one of my least favorite books (and especially the movie) was The Wizard of Oz, but when I saw this No Place Like Home Fabric(aff link) from Cloud 9 Fabrics, I couldn’t resist ordering a few yards. I love how vivid the colors appear against the contrast of a black background.
20180528_194436I decided to make Butterick 6182 to really “show off” the print. There are only three pattern pieces, so it’s a rather quick and easy sew. The instructions are very easy to follow, so a perfect pattern for a beginner or if you want a quick yet satisfying sew.
20180528_194118There are two center bust darts, and I love the subtle shaping from both the front and back panels. I removed about 1 ½” at the waist, sewed a 2″ hem, and kept everything else per the pattern. I considered adding inseam pockets, but I decided to keep it simple. I think it would be cute with patch pockets as well, so I may add them later.
This dress is so easy and fun to wear! I’ve worn it regularly since making it earlier this month. It’s great for running errands around town, meeting the girl’s for brunch, or even a casual date night.
Have you ever purchased a fabric (or a ready-to-wear garment) solely because you fell in love with the print design? What did you make/buy?
