Bari J Blazer

I’ve taught various sewing classes for a couple of years now, and I am so excited to teach my first blazer class next month! I fell in love with the Bespoke Blazer pattern the moment I saw Lindsey’s (@sewtogrow) post on Instagram, and I knew I had to add it to my class schedule for 2018. I own several blazers from my short career as a banker, but I always dreamed of finding a pretty floral blazer like this one from J Crew that fit me well.

I began my search for a floral print similar to the one from my J Crew inspiration, but when I came across this Art Gallery fabric at Cabbage Rose (I can’t find the link, but it’s by Bari J.) a few weeks ago, I knew the colors would make it a great transitional piece for spring and fall.

I love the back princess seam details that provide a flattering shape, and how quickly it goes together! I chose to use the same fabric for both the main and lining pieces, and I sewed a coordinating binding on the exposed seams. It’s a simple modification to fully line, so I will probably fully line my next version. I made size Small with the ¾ sleeve option. I made sure to line up the waist of the pattern to my natural waist, so I ended up shortening my pieces about an inch.

I’m leaning towards the red velvet, but I’m not sure if it’s too “trendy.” I can’t wait to see what fabric my students pick and get inspired through their choices!IMG_3805So, what are you currently working on? Where do you find your inspiration?
