Cuckoo’s Calling Valentine Quilt

I never dreamed of making a quilt until we found out we were pregnant. At that moment, all I wanted to do was make that baby a quilt and decorate our house with all the quilty things! There’s just something so cozy and inviting about a home that has quilts placed throughout. Unfortunately, I was placed on bed rest within a month, so I wasn’t able to finish that baby quilt…or anything else I had planned.

While on bed rest, I read lots of sewing and quilting blogs and eventually subscribed to a couple of magazines. My favorite to date has been Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine. I immediately fell in love with this Cuckoo’s Calling Quilt on the cover of Issue 20 a few years ago. It married my love for color, modern prints, and vintage design so well!

When I finally started, I decided we needed holiday quilts! Since I began to see all the Valentine fabrics at my local shops, I went with the Valentine theme. I used a combination of coordinating fabrics from my stash and Moda’s Surrounded by Love collection. The background is an aqua shade of Bella Solids by Moda that I found on sale at a local shop. My friend Melissa (aka My Fabric Relish) quilted it for me using the Boxtrot edge to edge design, and I chose her text on white backing for the back.

I eventually finished that baby quilt (and a few others!), but gifted it to friends who were expecting. Now, I have a few quilts that are in various stages, and I enjoy working on them when I have time. So, what’s on your cutting table at the moment?
