Summer Stripes Clutch

I rarely test patterns anymore, but when Vanessa from LBG Studio put out a tester call for her newest double zipper clutch, I couldn’t resist. I love a quick and simple sew, and I needed a new summer clutch made with this Alexander Henry fabric.
LBG Clutch FrontI made the medium clutch which required less than a fat quarter for the main fabric and about a third of a yard for the lining, so it’s a great stash or remnant buster. I used two 10″ metal YKK zippers and leather scraps for my accent pieces. She lists how much yardage you’ll need and all the notions needed for each size (S-XL) in the pattern.LBG Clutch HardwareThe instructions are clear and concise, and she provides illustrations for you to follow. The clutch is fully lined, and it took me an afternoon from start to finish to make. The large pocket has two interior pockets, which I sewed to the back lining piece versus the pocket lining piece as per the instructions.  There are also instructions to make a wrist strap, but I’m waiting on my order for a matching gold swivel hook to make mine. I think most aspects of this clutch are adventurous beginner friendly, but there are a couple of steps that could be considered tricky for someone with little sewing experience, such as sewing with leather on the bias or inserting zippers. Her instructions walk you through all the steps, but I recommend a beginner make a trial version first.
LBG Clutch Inner PocketAs I previously stated the main fabric is by Alexander Henry, and I love how chic these ladies are! I’m not sure why they make me think of Parisian women, but they do, so when I came across a half yard cut of Patty Sloniger’s Les Macarons fabric in my stash, it was a perfect pairing! The leather is also from my stash from a previous project, and it is a dream to sew!
LBG Clutch BackMy clutch finished at 10.5″ wide by 7″ tall, which is large enough to fit my small tablet in the front pocket. I made zipper tabs which aren’t in the instructions, but easy to make. I cut out pieces about 1/4″ wide and 8″ long. I then tied them onto the zipper pulls and trimmed them down. Easy peasy!
LBG Clutch FilledThis was a nice, quick sew and a great way for me to get back into bag making. I definitely think I’ll be making a few more for Christmas gifts this year!
