Even though the temps are steadily rising, I am slowly entering fall/winter prep mode for my upcoming fall classes. The first pattern for consideration is the Linden from Grainline Studio.
I love wearing over-sized sweaters in the cooler months, and I enjoy a simple pattern that is easy to hack. The Linden falls into both categories perfectly! For this version, I decided to create a high-low hemline, and I used a floral print bark cloth for the front pattern piece. The bark cloth is from Ella Blue’s Outback Wife, and I love it!! I washed it a couple of times, and it softened quite a bit. It holds pleats really well, so it’s ideal for any pattern that needs a bit of structure, but requires movement. The rest of the sweatshirt is a soft modal knit that I also found at Urban Spools. There were other colors, but I was smitten with this floral print at first sight, and this was the best pairing.
In spite of my modifications, this was a fairly quick sew. The pattern pieces lined up well, and I also appreciated that the sleeves aren’t cut on the fold. I made a size 4 and omitted the sleeve cuffs. As with all Grainline Studio patterns, the instructions are illustrated and concise, but Jen provides lots of tips for beginners. The one thing I was disappointed about is the 1/4″ seam allowances; I personally prefer to have at least 3/8″ seam allowances. So, do you like to alter patterns, or do you prefer to have pattern pieces already drafted for you? Any other “must have” patterns I need to consider for fall/winter?
that’s really cute. I’ve done lots of Grainline Studio patterns but not the Linden yet. I need to get that one
Thanks! I got the Alder and Archer, and I’m hoping to muslin them over the next couple of weeks. So many patterns, but oh so little time! 🙂
