McCall’s Mably Summer

Kaffe Frontal PoseI found this Brandon Mably fabric at Cabbage Rose Quilt Shop about a month ago, but I didn’t have a project in mind, so I only purchased 1 ½ yards. A few weeks later, I was regretting not buying more and hoping I could find a dress pattern that would work with such limited yardage. Fortunately, I’m petite, and I had McCall’s M7562 in my queue. It’s the perfect summer dress!
Kaffe Front Close Up
I think this is a fairly easy sew, and I think a confident beginner could easily make it. The neckline can be a little tricky, but if you take it slow and line up the notches, it goes together very quickly.
Watermark French Seams
I made version A without the front pocket in the XS and mostly kept everything else per the pattern. As usual, I sewed French seams along the sides and the inseam pockets. I used bias binding to hem the sleeves, and the pattern provides pattern pieces for the neckline binding. The only thing I would change about this dress would be to raise the bottom of the sleeve about an inch to provide a bit more coverage on the side. (For this version, I just wear a camisole underneath.)
Kaffe BackAlthough the pattern suggested rayons and other fabrics with similar drape, I love how it turned out using a quilting cotton.
