I generally don’t gravitate towards florals, but this spring, I can’t get enough of them in my wardrobe! Perhaps our weekly visits to the arboretum has influenced me a bit?
One of my favorite spring makes is this McCall’s 7543 floral top. It was such a nice, simple sew, and it pairs well with most things in my closet!
The fabric is a quilting cotton from the Riley Blake Designs Apricot and Persimmon collection by Carina Gardner. I purchased it at a quilt show about a year ago and planned on using it for a shift dress, but I think it’s perfect as a spring top!
I made View B, but added the straps from View A to prevent my toddler from accidentally pulling it down too far. I also used bias tape for the ties to give them a nice finish. The fit was pretty true to size, but tall friends, you will definitely need to add some length. I made the Small with zero modifications, and am 5’1″.
Is there a print or style you normally gravitate towards? Or does it vary based on mood and/or season? Is there a trend you can’t get enough of lately?
Lovely top! I have been working on the same top in blue tencel. The ties are a pain and I ended up cutting them off and adding bias ties. I couldn’t even get them to look right using a rolled hem foot.
I think I will re cut the sleeves from extra fabric I have and make them with a bias instead of the narrow hem. Thanks for the great idea.
You’re welcome! Bias tape is usually my answer for a quick sew.😉 I bet it’s dreamy in tencel!
